Files and uploads
Upload documents and images once, reuse them across your website as downloads, and manage them from one library under Settings.
Your organization has one library of uploaded files: trail maps, waivers, meeting minutes, budgets, photos. Upload a file once and reuse it on as many website pages as you like. Visitors to your website can then open or download it.
Find the library under Settings → Files and uploads. The website builder's Files to download block opens the same library.
Uploading files
Press Upload files and choose one or more files, or drag them onto the box. Each file can be up to 25 MB.
These kinds of file are accepted:
- Documents: PDF, Word (.doc, .docx), Excel (.xls, .xlsx), PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx), OpenDocument (.odt, .ods, .odp), rich text (.rtf), plain text (.txt) and CSV.
- Images: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP and HEIC.
Every file is checked when it is uploaded, and anything that could run on a visitor's computer is turned away with a sentence saying why:
- Office files containing macros, and the macro-enabled formats (.docm, .xlsm, .pptm). Save the file without macros, as an ordinary .docx, .xlsx or .pptx, and upload that.
- PDFs containing scripts, actions that open other programs, or attached files. Printing the document to a new PDF usually removes these.
- A file whose contents do not match its name, such as a web page renamed to end in .pdf.
- SVG images, web pages and programs, which are never accepted.
If you upload several files at once and one is turned away, the others are still saved.
Finding and managing files
The library lists every file with its type, size, the date it was uploaded and who uploaded it. Search by name, or show only documents or only images.
- Open shows the file the way a visitor gets it.
- Copy link copies its download link, to paste into an email or anywhere else.
- Rename changes the name the library shows and the name the file is saved under when somebody downloads it.
- Delete removes it. If a website page, news post or event still lists the file, you are told which ones first, and the links on them stop working once you delete it.
Uploaded files count toward your organization's storage, which you can see under Plan. Deleting a file gives that space back.
Putting files on your website
In the website builder, add a Files to download block (under Text and layout). Press Choose or upload files: the library opens, so you can tick files you have already uploaded or upload new ones, which are ticked for you. Press Add and they appear in the block.
Each file in the block can have its own name and a short line about it, and the arrows put them in order. Removing a file from the block leaves it in your library.
Visitors see each file as a row with its type and size. PDFs and images open in the browser; other documents download.
Anybody who has a file's link can download it, whether or not it is on a page. Keep anything private out of the library.
